Please give me Advice on buying a 1098s

I have an '08 1098 with no problems at all. The only times it's been back to a dealer since delivery were for the voltage regulator (though there was never a problem with the first one) and regular service.

I have an 07 1098s. bought here used with 2000 miles, added 4700 so far and I have not have a single problem.
However,
It stalled once at a light but restarted 5 mins later. It was a very hot day. Turn signal vibrated out of the right mirror.

Also had some recall work done under warranty, so thats not an issue as a second owner.

My impression has been that they are a little more finicy to start and such but very robust once running. I haven't heard of a single mechanical problem, on here or otherwise.

I will let you know how the first valve adjustment goes. $$$?!?

Thanks for all the replies guys! I really wish to be one of you in the near future with nothing but good things to say about my ducati.

btw- I talked to the seller of a local TC and he had VR replaced 6 times!! 2,900kms. A bit much no?

please do when you get the number$ after the service.
yeah i've noticed they struggle a bit to start on youtube vids aswell as in person. at a carshow this summer; was checking out a 1098s that the owner couldn't seem to get going and roll over. after he eventually did it stalled as he made a sharp turn nearly dropped it that would have bad sad infront of all those ppl.

Ducatis are sluggish under 3k rpms so the slow speed stuff is dreadful.
My bike stalled 3 times on me but that was before the voltage regulator fix, since then it hasn't given me any issues.

My other friend had it die on him 10+ times and had to get it towed. THEN he got the recall and paid $200 to get the bike tuned and its never happened again.

There are rumors, like a carb tuned bike, that ducati didn't balance the throttle bodies or set the TPS correctly so get that done by the dealer and ridability is supposed to be improved. Shame to say that but I've had Yamahas whos tuning was off at the facotry as well so it isn't Ducati exclusive.

I have to ADD 1 more important thing. Mine leaks oil (3 drops a day or less) but I'm sure its a hose, not the connection to the engine case but the hose behind the screw in bolt (like a toilet hose). Should be an easy fix for me and probably under $20.

The oil filter is a bitch to get out, seriously, I have 3 different tools and inevitably used a giant pair of channel locks.
