Please describe the shape or structure of the universe?

I still cant imagine a boundless yet not eternal but expanding space that does not make sense

Some shapes Ive heard

Sphere
If you say Sphere is the Universe the exterior layer of this Sphere ie like the land and sea of earth
or
Is the universe the interior mass inside the Sphere
or is it both
If so how is it expanding and wont it be easy to pin point the centre of the universe
If not how can you describe its shape structure I want to be able to make a mental picture of it and how its expanding etc
