Flower
A single flower bloomed from my old decrepit garden last night.
Though the overgrown weeds and briers
Put up a terrible fight.
“Please empathize”, my flower cried, in my strange winter plight.
The weeds had woven such a cage
And blocked out all my light.
I’m sorry to have arrived so soon before my planned rebirth.
I ask but one small favor sir
Do excuse my troubled mirth.
The winters long and frozen ground has trapped me in this earth.
I broke through when the others sleep
So the spring can’t hide my worth!
