The White Crucifixion
The work of Chagall called The White Crucifixion meaning was intended to show is of the suffering of the Jesus and Jewish. The violent acts against Jews occur, such as the burning of the synagogues and invaders. At the centre, Jesus shown wearing prayer shawl, which is symbol that Jesus is Jewish. The Crucifixion means the Holocaust against Jews. The Candlestick with seven candles at bottom means the life of pious Jews.
Wedding Candles
The wedding candles were third painting of Chagall with same intentions to show his marriage. This one is more Jewish than other two. That maybe because Chagall grew older, had a greater appreciation to his roots. At the bottom of the painting there is naked Bosom, this means eroticism and fertility of life and that Chagall respected women’s. The fiddler represents music of cross points of life (birth, wedding, death). There are animals in the painting, which means the harmony between man, and animals and which includes creativity in men.
Exodus
Painting Exodus has a lot happening in it. There is herring (in left, top corner), which also known as flying fish, this means that Chagall’s father had worked in the fish factory. On right there can find pendulum clock which meaning to Chagall is time, and modest life. There are animals in the painting, which suggest that Chagall wanted to create harmony between man and animals. The crucifixion of Jesus is placed on top at the middle, this means that Chagall want to show the Holocaust, when Jews being persecuted by the Nazis.
