Playstation Game Name Help?

I can remember playing a game on the PS1 about ten years ago. I don't know the name or remember much about it (I was only 7). I do remember that you had to climb this tower while defeating monsters at a fairly rapid pace. The graphics weren't amazing, they where still sprites. I also remeber (for some reason) that you could steal food from the Inn by eating and running and then hiding from the guards...Does anyone know the name of this game?
 
Sounds like Chrono Cross from the tower part... but I don't recall being able to steal food from the Inn. You could check it out, but I doubt I'm right.. I never owned a PSX >.<
