I spent the entire day trying to connect playstation 3 to the internet. I talked to Qwest (wireless provider) they said I need I needed the firm wear version of Playstation model that I have (40 ) and the IP address that playstation uses.

Playstation said that they need to open a port (very long complicated number) and take off the firewall.

This volley went back and forth 3 times today. Holding,ect...

Question:

Why do I need the internet for Playstation 3?

Can't I download updates on line, or have them send me a updated version on a disk?

Is the intenet connection mostly for gameplay?

and how do I know if my tv is on it's best setting?

I'm sorry for all these questions...perplexed in Seattle.

1) you dont necessarily NEED internet but if you wish to play online then you must have a broadband connection
2)You can download firmware updates from the playstation site and load it on a thumb drive to update
3) yes and for the browser if you so wish to use it.
4) your ps3 automatically detects if its on hd and sets itself accordingly. I myself play on 1080p and its excellent.
5) Its no problem
