Playstation 3 bluetooth problem?

hi i recently bought a bluetooth headset and tried to get it to connect to my PS3 but when i go on bluetooth and click search for devices (or words like them) it just carries on searching for ages with no results coming up and my headset bluetooth was turned on, after about 30 mins i usually give up. can anyone help me with this ? thanks
