Playing PS1 games on PS3 40GB?

I am keen on playing some of my old PS1 games on my new PS3 40GB. I know that ps2 games are not compatible with this model but have heard that ps1 games are. When I insert a PS1 game into my PS3, the game doesn't come up however, the sound tracks on the game do. Is there any way that i can actually play the game? Thanks...10 pts 4 best answer
