Plastic Strip on side of honda pilot?

was it a clear plastic? Manufactures put them there because in areas where it snows the salt generally rusts those spots first, the plastic prevents that.
 
So today while I was waxing my car i found a plastic strip by the rear door of my 2004 honda pilot so i took it off there was one on the other side aswell can anyone tell me what it was and if i shouldnt of taken it off?
Yes it was clear and that is most likely what it was for thank you
