Planet Terror

No, but I read a review in Total Film.

Apparently its not as good as Tarantino's Death Proof. Didn't think it would be anyway as Tarantino is a far more talented director.

Still can't wait and I do actually prefer the premise of it to Death Proof. Alien Zombies sound so much more exciting than a film about busty hot women without (get this!) any nude women.

Still, I will see this when possible as it is the film I have been most anticipating for the whole year. aswell as Death Proof. Would have just preferred the whole Grindhouse together though, if I'm honest.
 
I think there's been some threaRAB on this already, but the general view seems to be that it's the better of the two. Having seen both I tend to agree with that. Both of them are great recreations of tacky exploitation movies of the seventies, primarily destined for drive-in movie shows in the southern States. Planet Terror is spectacularly over the top, but it does raise an almost continuous smile on the face of those who like revel in such schlocky tosh. Both of them have good extras discs too, with lots of interesting background stuff.

I read that, unlike Death Proof, the UK release of Planet Terror will be the same as the Grindhouse version, missing reel and all.

Saw the trailer for the first time at the weekend. Looks great, the leg-gun looks particularly impressive:D Can't wait.
 
Well Robert says on the commentary that theres a whole lot more footage that wasnt shown on the dvd.........and the dvd was the extended cut!! lol
 
Me too. It was Grindhouse I saw and thought this was easy the best out of the two.

I watched it with one of my daughters and we were either laughing hysterically or gobsmacked into shock at some of the scenes. It's an absolute rollercoaster of a movie...and totally unique to any horror I've ever viewed

as i have mentioned before Planet Terror is by far the best of the two Grindhouse films. if you like over the top horror movies like 'From Dusk till dawn', you will love it.

dont worry about the lack of Tarantino as a director, i'm sure he had his hand in the way the movie turned out as some of the dialogue is pure Tarantino.
 
Thought I'd ressurect this as it's out tomorrow. I watched the US DVD version and thought it was terrific, old school filmmaking but with top notch effects, even the CGI blood was passable.

I much prefer this to Death Proof, it kicks ass:D
 
Does anyone know if they are showing the fake movie trailers before Planet Terror in its UK release? These are also the reason I didn't want Grindhouse spilt up.
I am looking forward to it also as I love zombie films and seeing Bruce Willis in the trailer, it does look quite funny too!
 
Actually, now I re-read the question I realise I don't really know what the UK DVD will have on it. I was talking about the R1 DVD I've got.

Saw this tonight.

Thought it was okay. It was funny in parts, but the joke wore a bit thin by the end of it. Would have loved to have seen this and 'Deathproof' as it was originally intended, because neither film really stanRAB up well on its own.
 
I'm not sure what the "joke" is that wears a bit thin:confused: I just took it as a normal movie and thought it was fantastic. I thought it kept the momentum going throughout and I would love to see the missing reel.

Definitinely my film of the year, although I haven't seen Good Luck Chuck yet:D
 
I saw the whole film as a "joke". Basically a parody of those old horror B-movies, with the intentionally hokey script etc.

I did think it worked well in parts, but it was overstretched at 1hr 45minutes, or however long the film lasted. :)
 
I'm kind of astonished that anyone would view either of them as anything but a homage/parody. But then I guess if you're young enough you might still take it at face value. In which case you probably would see it as a bit crap, unaware of the fact that it was meant to be.
