I don't know when it opens in the UK, but when it does, make sure you see it. It's not just the best animated film of the year, it's likely also the best film, period.

If the 3D version of it is shown anywhere accessible, go see it that way. In the past, 3D hasn't been worth it (or sometimes even detracted from a film), but that's not the case with this one. But if you can't see it in 3D, still see it--the primary strength of the movie is the storytelling, not the technology.

If you saw and enjoyed Wall-E, then UP will appeal to you too. But in my opinion, it's even better than Wall-E. Human, warm and pardon the pun... uplifting. The first few minutes of UP may, in fact, be one of the most heartfelt and touching things ever put on film.
 
Just got back from seeing this, fantastic film, definitely one of Pixar's best. Still not convinced by the whole 3D thing, but have to admit it did look fantastic shown with a digital projector.

And something happened that I haven't seen (or heard) at the cinema for a long time...there were a couple of scenes (the quieter ones) where the entire cinema was silent, not a cough, rustle or whisper :) (granted it was a 21:30 showing so there were no kiRAB in it :))
 
The cinema I go has it showing in both but there's a lot more 3D showings than 2D.

In fact, I've just checked and there's only one 2D showing at 12pm and about 14 3D showing:eek: I'll go at 12:p
 
I was apprehensive about seeing this as animated films don't usually appeal to me. However I absolutely loved it! Fantastic animation, fun storyline and packed full of laugh out loud moments. I cried twice. :o
 
The 3D on this is incredible. The film itself is OK but, as others have said, is surprisingly boring in parts. It's also decidedly melancholy.
 
I thought that short feature was cute, They should make it a full length version although somehow i doubt they could ever manage to do it
 
I just got back and I loved every second of it. Seriously one of my favourite Pixar movies.

A really fun, sweet storyline!

I cried 3 times... :p
 
Right. I've been posting here for five years, and made 750 posts just so I could sneak in there and get 50 more people to see a film that's going to gross a few hundred million dollars anyway.

Are you having fun embarrassing yourself yet?
 
Well.....

The old guy in the movie is married at the beginning but his wife dies - this is shown early on as an introduction to the character and his background - it's very well done and gives you that emotional link.

Yeah I had a silent cinema in parts, too! It was really atmospheric.

Loved this film but knew I would - all the Pixars are just amazing, each one totally unique and special (well, I'm not a fan of Finding Nemo but obviously other people like it!).

The animation on the dogs was one of the things that really caught my attention - the movements were so realistic, and yet they had their cartoonish charm, too :)
 
Those first 15 minutes or so are easily the most heartbreaking scenes Pixar has ever made - yes, even more so than the opening to Finding Nemo, Jessie's song in Toy Story 2, or that bit near the end of Wall-E...

You could sense the whole cinema was about to blub (the adults, anyway!)
 
That happened at the screening I was at too. Complete silence except for
the scene when Carl is yelling 'bad dog!' and a little boy cries in an indignant voice 'he's not a bad dog! and everyone laughed.
very few films that entrall the entire audience.
 
Funny that, a kid said the same thing when I saw the film. It's clever how Peterson & Docter can provoke an audience reaction with a very simple bit of dialogue.

My only caveat about Up is that parents should have more common sense than to take really young children to see it. There were kiRAB there who were barely old enough to walk, and it's well known that the film begins with a long, slow montage which would be hard for very young children to follow. Why take children to a film you know isn't really aimed at their age-group?
 
I saw up yesterday and cried a few times in it - its is so sad at the beginning - not what i expected at all. The rest was really sweet and lovely with lots of laugh out loud moments. I loved Doug the talking dog and the bird. Russell and mr fredickson are just lovely characters. Overall a good 8/10. :)
