I have just recently stripped the bike down to be redone, e.g frame sprayed, cosmetics.
It is a Road legal pit bike so it has all the lights and battery, not starter motor.
i had the engine rebuilt at my college workshop as well to change the gearbox with the help of my tutor who used to be a mechanic. the gears fitted fine and it all went together ok and made sure the gears would select properly before putting it back together. then put the gaskets on, put it back together and put the head on and set the cam timing.
Now its back in my bike, i put all of the electrics back on (except the battery as it doesn't matter)
put fresh oil in the bike and put the carb and tank on and after a few kicks it started up. left it on choke and then took it off as it was warm.
i went to put it into gear and it died. which is odd, i tried again and it kept doing it. but today i thought i'd rev the hell out of it while having the clutch in and putting it into gear. so i did that and it didn't die as it was revving high but its spluttered very bad, i was able to pull off but when i let off the revs it died.
i wouldn't of thought it would be the engine rebuild as it went together just fine didn't look like there was any problems. my friend said to me the cam timing wasn't set up but it cant be that as it idles fine. i have a thought that it might be the CDI as if its in a certain position it won't start but that happened when the bike was running and it never died when i put it into gear.
Does anyone have any ideas please? thanks
