Pinging in my Limited...

Pull My Finger

Question, just came back from riding down to Phoenix from KC. So while I was riding from Albuquerque west to Phoenix I experienced some pinging in 6th gear running 3000rpm at about 78-80mph.
Now I always put the highest octane I could find while at the pump, which usually consisted of 90 or 91. I was riding solo, and I

We've had this problem since 2007. My 96 inch would ping until I went to a power commander and with the stock cams, when it was hot, it would ping slightly under load. Now with the cam change (se 204's), no ping at all.

Gas formulation and Altitude.

It may say its 91 or 92 octane, but most of the time with the small gallon amounts we draw to fill up we get shitty gas mix.

You just dont always get what you pay for.

Could be that your power commander is not adjusting to the altitude and fuel mixture. But see what it does while driving it around your hometown.

I hate pinging. The last problem I had with pinging involved a sticking injector.I had caused the problem my self by cleaning the throttle body with spray Seafoam cleaner. It did it's job.Took a little bit to figure it out but took care of some other issues looking for the problem.Had a bad vacum hose to the Calif.canister( which I took off ),changed intake seals and changed out plug wires when the tank was off.Cleaned both injectors and ran Seafoam through the gas tank.Damn bike runs like new now!

i live out here in satans basement(PHX).. my bike even with a pciii pings not severely but it's noticeable in 6th gear as well .around the same speeds as your limited daver45.. and it hasent been that hot around here lately been in the upper 90's ... the gas is garbage out here! im going to try cleaning my intake and running some injector cleaner like fasthoss did.. going to save up for a set of cams and dyno tune i guess is whats next
