I have eaten fresh pineapple on occasion from time to time throughout my life. The other day I had maybe 6 large chunks of very juicy yummy pineapple and I've always kinda thought it made my tounge tingle a bit but thats all.

The next morning I was having a bowl of fruit loops and noticed near the end of the bowl and my last few spoonfuls that the corners and top of my lips were burning where the spoon met my mouth. I then proceded to have more pineapple not thinking of the possible connection. After brushing my teeth and tounge I noticed my gums and tongue felt really weird after. Almost like my tastebuRAB were rubbed off and my gums were brushed with a wire brush.

Now a few days later my lips have finally almost healed, but my tounge and tastebuRAB still feel kinda tingly and food tastes kinda weird from the roof of my mouth. I also have kind of a bumpy tounge around the outer edges.

Has anyone ever experienced an allergy to pineapple? Is that was this is? If so, how long til it gets back to normal? What can I do to speed healing? I want food to taste good again, please help!

SOunRAB like you have Oral Allery Syndrome (OAS). Do a search on this board. You'll find several previous threaRAB on it.

Thanks, I looked into OAS and Pineapple doesn't appear to be one of the fruits on the list of allergens. So, maybe it's something else.

I know some people have said that the juice from the fresh pineapple can be very hard on the tounge for some reason. It literally feels like my tastebuRAB were burnt off of my tongue and that I need to wait for them to replenish or something. This is day 5 and I am still not back to normal. I have to chew near my cheeks to be able to taste the food I am eating. Anything even remotely strong, salty, or sour seems to make matters worse.

Any more advice or similar stories?
