PIN Locked to RIM

I have a general question about PIN's that are locked to RIM. I'm pretty sure that Ranxoren is going to be able to answer this fully for me.

I'm getting a new BB from a friend who got it from a sales rep or something at RIM. My friend is telling me that I can't hook this BB up to my data plan because the PIN is locked to RIM or something like that.

Would getting the phone unlocked resolve this PIN issue?

Usually when you get a phone "unlocked", that means you are unlocking the block that they put against phone carriers. Meaning unlocking the phone would just give you the option of using it on T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint, etc. If the PIN is indeed locked by RIM, then I personally don't know a way around it. Maybe someone else here knows.

You are describing a pre-rpoduction Bold. The PINs are banned.

The phone is probably unlocked already. It has nothing to do with the PIN being banned

I have not found a single person with one of these units that was able to get the PIN and email working.

Thanks for the tips - I just went over the email that my friend sent me and she says that I can't hook up a data plan to it because it's a RIM employee's phone. In the past I've gotten a "RIM Employee" 8700 and was able to get the data plan working on it.

It could be one of two cases.

The PIN is on a RIM employee account meaning that its IN USE without being blocked.
In that case there IS a way around it : you have to get the PIN removed from THAT BIS/BES account.
Only way you can do that is to either call the original owner.
OR to call rogers and tell them you now own the device and sometimes they will release the PIN and add it to an account for you.

NOW, this is only IF THE PIN IS NOT BLOCKED BY RIM

Because if it is you fall another the other case :
The one that Ge and J@ricanese were talking about : The PIN is BLOCKED by RIM (usually when theyre pre-production and the phone is now out / or when theyre stolen from the assembly line) and there is absolutely NO WAY around it.

My 2cents if rogers is a cdma company and you already have a blackberry then when you get the device added what you had on your old account and should swap over so data will wrk not emails

If its gsm data will wrk cuz it goes off of your sim and not the phone...

Data shud wrk since its pushed via imei or esn vs pin #

For the email/pin look in options security general settings scroll to the bottom where it says it policy name and check to see if there is anything there also look at services and check to see if there is anything there?

Well it looks like Ran is right again. I just tried to put the PIN through my account and it says deactivated. Would unlocking this phone help?

Here is the correct wording of what happens when I try to add this device to my account. "PIN Currently Suspended or Deactivated" Now I've been surfing around reading how other people have had the same problem with their specific carriers etc. I've read how they spent several hours on the phone with CSR's etc and no one has posted if they were able to get the problem fixed.

Just to point out something that I had posted in another post - the Rogers CSR whom I spoke to about a week or so ago told me to go out a buy an unlocked phone. Now if Rogers tells me to go out and buy an unlocked phone can they not add this PIN once the device is unlocked or change the PIN on this device? I've several people post to others to not give up on this issue - but should I?

1) rogers is gsm frm what I read on google real quick if its like tmo down here n the states why can't you just take your sim card out of the blackberry u have now and put it in the blackberry your friend gave you.

This way u will get data but not email

2) The phone your friend gave you is it a current phone sold by rogers meaning if u go online or into the store will it b there cuz rim makes tons of blackberrys

To sum it up, you CAN use data on this phone but NOTHING THAT REQUIRES GOING THROUGH THE RIM BIS OR BES SERVERS.
Basically you can use Opera Mini, you can use GoogleMail etc... but you cant use Push Email, the BB Browser, BBMessenger, BBMaps etc..
In my opinion its a big waste.

And even if you unlock it it wont make a difference beacuse RIM blocked it thats it thats all.

Thanks for help everyone. Looks like I'll be getting rid of this phone, I need my work email directly to my phone.

Thought this might be a good one.

whereabouts are you located ? Ive honestly seen BRAND NEW Bolds for around 350CAD.
Its always worth looking around.

I'm located in Hamilton Ontario. I'm constantly searching for sale sites etc. I do not deal with Ebay - to crazy for me.

Do you have any idea why RIM won't release these PINS or why Rogers can't make them valid? I understand that maybe Rogers wants you to buy their products etc but this phone works with everything but the BIS - I would figure Rorgers could do something.

Thanks for your help - I've told quite a few people about your posts at work.
