Physics question about distance?

A man walks up a hill at a speed of 8.0m/s. When he reaches the top, he walks back down at thesame distance at a speed of 12.0m/s. What is the average speed for the trip?

Combine given data:
t = d/8 + d/12 = 20d/96

12d/96 + 8d/96 = 20d/96

Distance = 2d (meters)

V average = D/t = 2d/(20d/96) = 9.6 m/s

Average speed = total distance/total time
