Assume: Down the plane is the positive direction and up the plane is the negative direction. A block of mass 160 kg slides on a frictionless plane inclined at 36 degrees with the horizontal under the influence of a restraining force of 1514 N acting parallel to the incline and up
the incline. The acceleration of gravity is 9.8 m/s2 .

a) What is the magnitude of the acceleration IaI of the block? Answer in units of m/s2.
Note: IaI = absolute value of a, (hard to type that).

b) The resulting motion is...

1. down the plane, since the acceleration is positive.
2. up the plane, since the acceleration is negative.
3. undetermined.
