A pulley (in teh form of a uniform disk) with mass 50kg and a radius 14cm is attached to the ceiling in a uniform gravitational field and rotates with no friction about its pivot. The masses are connected by a massless inextensible cord and T1, T2, and T3 are magnitudes of tensions.
The drawing shows a pulley which is 50kg and a mass connected to it 20kg and another one on the other side 35kg. T1 is inbetween the 20kg mass and the 50kg and T2 is in between the 35kg and the 50kg and T3 is inbetween the pulley 50kg and the ceiling, and the distance inbetween the 35kg mass and the 20kg mass is 4.8m.
1. Determine the acceleration of the mass 20kg. The acceleration of gravity is 9.8m/s^2. Assume up is positive. ANswer in units of m/s^2.
2. What is the acceleration of the center of mass of the system? Answer in units of m/s^2.
3. WHat is magnitude of the tension T1? Answer in units of N.
4. What is the magnitude of the difference in the tensions T2 and T1? Answer in units of N.
5. What is the magnitude of the tension T3? Answer in units of N.
6. Determin the magnitude of deltaFg = (Mp +M2 +m1) g - T3, the difference in the force of gravity on the sum of the three masses and the tension in the cord holding up the pulley? Answer in units of N.
