Okay, so this is part of my homework. This is one question out of 10 that I am required to do.
This one's really got me, so could please give me a push in the right direction? thanks!:D

A 895kg frieght car coasts at 3.1 m/sec. A crane drops a 365kg junk automobile into the frieght car. What is the frieght car's new speed?

Ok, so I know the equation I need to use. (M1 V1 + M2 V2) Before = (M1 V1 + M2 V2) After

I know I need to re arrange the equation, but I am not sure how.

I tried (M frieght V frieght) = (M cat Vcar) and solved for velocity, but the answer I got (7.6 m/sec) doesn't make sense. Logically, the frieght car with the added weight is going to slow down, right?

Then I tried (Mfrieght Vfrieght + Mcar Vcar) = (M1 + M2) finalv, but When I plugged in the numbers, it didn't even work out.

So, if you could help me think this out, that'd be awesome! Thanks to all! ^_^
