1. Suppose you have just barely loosened a rusty bolt. Suppose you have a mass of 70kg and have a 45cm wrench that you placed in a negative x‐direction and hung off the end so all your weight was applied in a negative y‐direction to the end of the wrench.

a. What is the magnitude AND direction of the torque? Remember units!

b. Now suppose you had a bolt that needed to be tightened to 250 Nm. You place the wrench in a positive x‐direction and hang down in a negative y‐direction. How long of a wrench would you need to have to tighten the bolt completely?

2. Suppose you had the same wrench as in #1a, but you placed the wrench at an angle of 60° with the vertical, as shown below. How much torque is applied to the bolt? Remember torque has a
magnitude AND a direction.
