PHP newbie - problem with mail() function.?

Hi, I am trying to send a message through php using the mail function. When i first started to use this function, it was working fine, and the messages were sending. Now if i try and send them, the messages just go in a queue, and don't get sent. When i start the stmp server, the mini relay thing opens, says it has 3 files in the queue, and attempts to send them, but it doesn't work. I haven't changed any files, so why could this be happening?
