photoshop help, won't save right!!!?

I can't save as jpeg or any other file other than a photoshop document, if i save as anything else it just turns into a "file" document.... help?

Check you image mode - Image pulldown menu --> Mode --> set it for RGB and 8 bits/channel.

Now try doing a Save As and see if it lists all the formats.
