Photoshop CS3 Smudge tool Problem (Win XP) - White outline appears?

When I use the smudge tool on a black-filled circle, which is on a blank (except from the circle) layer, I get a white outline on my smudge brush trace. Which is annoying because I am trying to draw an eye - and there is this white outline all along my smudge trait.

Global layout :
Blue-filled circle (drawn with the brush tool) on a layer
smaller Black-filled circle on a layer above.
It worked well for the left eye and now, doing the same manip, but that's what happens with the right one.

In fact, I'm trying to do an iris effect with the tool. But doesn't work twice... -,-'

Any help would be greatly appreciated !
Thanks in advance !

@Ali D :
In fact, there is a beige colored layer below where I smudge...

Here's an screen of the problem : http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/1088/whatthesmudgck.jpg

Maybe I should just restart my PC :-/ Because it doesn't seem quite normal - I mean, the transparent square, where the white outlines are cut out...

Thanks again :)

You can actually smudge a picture enough to see "through" the layer. It might just be that the layer below the one you are smudging is white and you smudged the top layer enough to expose the white underneath.

EDIT:

Kinda looks like an outer glow effect... but im not really a photoshop person so i dont think i can help you any further ><
