Photos from my cammera will not download, say it needs to be formated?

When I had windows xp I had no problems loading photos from my sd card to my comp. Now that I have windows 7 when I try to load photos I get the message "this disc must be formated". What can I do to fix this. If I choose format it will erase all my photos right?


Any help would be great. thanx
