I've purchased an original 11 x 14 vintage b&w gelatin silver print and will be framing it in a black gallery style frame. I was told to never use a pure white mat for b&w photographs, is this true? I've uploaded the photo as my profile picture and as you can see it's of a silver DC-3. The tones are similar to that of Bourke-White's work such as her Chrysler bldg. series. So what shade of white would be best if not a white-white? Oh, and does anyone have any ideas who the photograph could be attributed to? No clues on back to go by.
