Photography for A levels ?

I have recently decided I might want to do photography for A levels but because I have missed all the open days where people were told all about the course I have no idea what its like. Do you get to choose your own projects? Do you learn all about how cameras actually work? Also is photography a levels thought of as an "easy" option by universities? Thanks for the help
