There is a ton of information on the internet about file compression. I suggest you start at Wikipedia, since they can offer a variety of other sources.

Nearly any kind of file can be compressed to some degree. The compression schemes vary as to how they compress and decompress the files, so explaining specifics as to how it's done would be incomplete, at best.

okay, so i need help. with a paper i was forced to write because i couldnt fundraise enough. my grade is counting on it & it has to do with file compressions? ive researched and honestly dont understand it. can someone please give me the dumbed down version of what file compressions are, who invented different file formats and what their best applications are? thankyouuuuu.!
