QUESTIONS MCGEE

so my friend and i are in a little disagreement.
so we were taking pictures on my webcam, and the lamp next to the computer that is shining on my right side is really bright, so my right arm looks very washed out, but nothing else does. and my friend said that the "exposure makes your arm look so pale"
so our question is, does that make any sense to say?
because i thought that "exposure" is only a term that can be used in like, film photography. because you can't adjust the exposure on a webcam... so does it have an exposure really?
and also, since its the lamp next to me that is making part of me so bright, isn't it the lamp thats making my arm washed out? not the "exposure" on the webcam?
