Can I still be a cinematographer if I major in photography in college? Will not majoring in film close off all job options in the film industry? I'd like to work in the film industry eventually, but I also love photography, and it would be easier to apply and to get into college if I apply as a photography major. What should I do?
I have a good education in photography so far, and have taken courses in developing and printing black and white photography, digital photography, slr camera basics, and digital camera basics. I have a strong photography portfolio, but nothing extraordinary to submit as far as film goes. One of the few film pieces I have is this:

(please watch)
I did this for a school project on the book 'night'. The book is about a holocaust survivor's experiences and my film is my reaction to the book.

I don't see how majoring in Photography can close ANY doors in the film industry.

YOU HAVE TO BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND LIGHT.

They both are LIGHT related and film related. The Cinematographer is a MOTION PHOTOGRAPHER and must be able to capture the essence of the experience for the sake of the viewer... it's in my article http://www.jpgmag.com/people/galan/stories. Read it and apply it to both your stills and motion photography... they are relevant.
