Photography Career??I DONT KN0W WHAT T0 D0!!?

Im considering going into photography and journalism since im going to start college soon.Is it a good career and is it paid well?
My dream IS 0NE DAY W0RK FOR NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC.IS IT POSSIBLE FOR A MID CLASS GIRL IN LA T0 GET THERE.H0W CAN I GET THERE?PLEASE ANSWER ALL MY QUESTIONS.
 
photography requires a combination of skill, technical ability, and if you are working with people, personality. You can be a camera whiz and still fail as a photographer if you are socially inept. Read a few books. Learn what is going on in your camera. Take thousands of pictures and experiment with settings, lighting, etc. Books on lighting are very important. Is it photo journalism your thinking of? Whole different world, very competitive, you have to fight and scratch to make a good living unless you make a name for yourself. Pay depends on your level of skill and the field you choose. A great wedding photographer with a stellar reputation and results can command thousands of dollars a job. A lazy mediocre wedding photographer who just takes the standard poses with the same lens and flash firing away mindlessly, and then hops into the buffet line, much much less.
