Photography at University? and the different types?

I need to start thinking about University and what I want to do.
I'm at college at the moment and I am really interested in Photography.

I want information on whether a Degree in Photography is a worthwhile thing to do because obviously it'd be quite expensive and Photography is one of those fields where you are ultimately judged on your portfolio.

So really, what I want to know is, how useful would studying Photography at University be when it comes down to finding work?

Any information anyone has on the different types of Degrees would be useful aswell.
I have looked at both Photojounalism and Fashion/studio photography degrees, would it be good to do something like that or would just a normal Photography Degree be better?

I have a big interest in Photography, it is the part that interests me most within my Graphics Design A-Level that I am currently studying at college and is also probably the part that I am strongest at.
On the side I am also doing a part-time evening course in Basic Photography which I thought would help when it comes down to showing how interested I am in doing it.

Thanks for any answers.

Why not go with Graphic Designs? There are some degrees that are specifically geared toward graphic design while it is an emphasis/concentration in other degrees. You could take a few photography courses on the side to help with the graphic design.
