Hey there everyone!
I need some help with a uni assesment im currently working on which asks us to evaluate how we understand photography as a medium and art form. Could any photography buffs lend me ur knowledge on this sunject im having a difficult time find information.
The assesment also asks us to evaluate a quote by photographer man ray which reads "of course, there will always be those who look only at technique, who ask 'how',while others of a more curious nature will ask 'why'. personally i prefer inspiration to information".
If any one could put forward their thoughts on this in relation to photography/art that would also b greatly appreciated!

cheers!

You're having a difficult time finding information because the question posed by the subject does not require a quantitative answer - it's an exercise in subjectivity. Basically, the question asks for YOUR opinion. There is no right or wrong answer. You're so obsessed with the questions "how" and "why" that you are missing the forest for the trees. I'm not giving you the answer you're looking for because I am sick to death of uninspired kids like you asking rhetorical homework assignment questions because you can't find the answer on your own, it drives me bananas. I'd say if you don't, can't, or refuse to understand the point behind the quote you provided, you shouldn't be a photographer - or any other artist. I get so annoyed by people like you because it's a sure sign that your generation lacks the motivation to be creative, or to do your own work - you people want the quick solution, the easy way out. What's the point? If you're not going to exercise your own creativity, why become an artist? Have some flippin' independent thought!
