Photo Capabilities Of Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S930?

I'm getting into the hobby of photography and I just purchased a Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S930 bundle for $100. A friend of mine told me it would be a good idea to start with a digital compact and recommended the camera. I wanted to know what this camera is best suited for shooting. Is it better for portraits, landscape, or all around? It has 10.1 megapixels and a 3 zoom. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks
