Phone wont activate with Cricket- I need help?

I bought a motorola v265 refurbished phone and got a phone nuraber from cricket, went to activate and phone wont activate because i have no signal.So cricket tried having me manually do it and it wont go through. to manually do it the first step is to type in 74663# and hit ok twice fast and it should bring up ENTER SUBSIDY CODE, but my phone brings up nothing, any suggestions? maybe a guide for dummies? lol

on the older moto's with a menu button it is 74663# {menu} {menu}

NOT OK but the center menu button (three horizontal lines)

if you have no signal the phones not going to work after you manually program it.....but i could be wrong
