Hello, everyone --
This is my first posting as a new member. Yaayy!!
We have U.S. Cellular, and I'd like to get a new phone with a sliding QWERTY keyboard, similar to what my teenager daughter has (she has a somewhat earlier LG, I forget what model). I do NOT want to pay for monthly internet charges, so I don't want a Smart Phone, although it would be nice if I had the bucks.
My two choices seem to be: Samsung R630 vs. the LG UX265 Banter. Here's what I have so far in the way of info:
1. SAMSUNG R630 Messager: (A fairly new phone with various capacities)
PLUSES for me: It has a 2.0 megapixel camera; is capable of taking videos. (although I doubt I would be doing that very often, and I doubt that the quality would be very good).
The blue version looks really sharp.
MINUS: It doesn't have separate number keys, so you have to press a function key before you get a number, on the keyboard.
NOT SURE IF PLUS OR MINUS: The Touchscreen. It could be fun to use, including various widgets, etc., but this could be a minus in the following ways: a) it could break down or stop functioning; b) it seems to use a lot of juice, since you can feel a small vibration in the phone when you do stuff on the touch screen, and c) the touch screen is the only way to navigate down through your contact list, rather than having up/down navigation arrow keys. The sales associate said that some people have found that annoying.
-- Also, someone on this website said that they didn't like the quality of the Samsung.
2. LG &X265 Banter: NOTE that U.S. Cellular is discontinuing this phone, so I'll have to act fast if I want it. The model that's replacing it is a lot wider, which I don't like.
PLUS: I like the keyboard a little better; it has a separate row of number keys at the top.
It seems like there may be less to go wrong, without a touch screen.
It's about $20 cheaper, for what that's worth.
The predecessor to this one, owned by my daughter, has been a workhorse and has stood up well.
MINUSES: The camera is only 1.4 megapixels, and doesn't take or show videos.
There have been negative customer reviews concerning its quality.
HELP! Any suggestions or perspectives would be welcome!
