Hello everyone,
I am a new member who would greatly appreciate your advice regarding mobile phones.
I purchased my current mobile phone mainly for use in the event of an emergency and for text messaging my loved ones.
I have tried several times (unsuccessfully) to internationally text message my family and friends in the UK. I live in in the Northeastern US and am currently using a Vox8610 Virgin Mobile that uses a Top-Up card. The family and friends I am trying to text message are T-Mobile UK customers. I have been trying to send them text messages in various ways such as +011 and their mobile number, +01144 and their mobile number, and 0044 in front of their mobile numbers but none of these have worked.
I am able to speak to them on my mobile phone and I am able to receive text messages from their mobile phones. I am also able to receive and send text messages within the US but when I send text messages to the UK they are not received; sometimes my messages say that they have been sent (even though they are never received) and other times I get a no reply message.
I have asked Virgin Mobile USA for help and they say they do not support text messaging direct to an international number. They did say that I should be able to send a message overseas to a mobile phone email address but I may have to contact the other carrier in the UK to find out their email format. Virgin Mobile said if the carrier does not support this feature, I will not be able to return the messages. I have contacted T-Mobile uk via email to find out their email format but when I did this I was told it may take up to 5 days to hear something from them.
I was wondering are there any mobile phones (preferably prepaid with service in the Northeastern US) that have an easier to use international text messaging feature (where I could text message direct to an international number)?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
