Is a pheumothorax hereditary as i have suffered one and now have to go for surgey
 
Pneumothorax or "collapsed lung" is not hereditary. Did you suffer any chest trauma, or maybe a rib fracture?

Sometimes a collapsed lung happens without any cause and they then called it a "spontaneous" pneumothorax. A small area in the lung that's filled with air can rupture out of the blue, and the air leaks into the space around the lung.

The spontaneous pneumothorax seems to be more in people with ectomorphic body types, happens more frequently in males than females, happens more in the 16 - 21 year range and is caused mostly because of blebs which are thin areas that expand and thin as the body grows, eventually giving out causing the inner lung to collapse.

I had many collapses when I was 19 - 21 finally being hospitalised, tubed and eventual surgery (thoracotomy/pleurodesis).

Hereditary? well, it's congenital...we do inherit our body types and tendencies....

What surgery exactly are you having? which lung collapsed and was it of the spontaneous variety? How old are you and how many collapses have you had?
