Hi, I was wondering if somebody could offer some suggestions. I just got this rental 2008 peugeot 107 with the semi-automatic gearbox, and at idle, the engine vibrates and judders horribly. Idle rpm is about 800. Pressing the gas pedal a little to rev it up to 1000rpm makes the engine vibration even worse, but once above about 1100rpm the vibration stops.
Coincidentally, a 2008 Toyota Vitz (with automatic gearbox) I rented from the same agency also had a bad vibration problem at idle.
I'm asking more out of curiosity than because I actually want to fix it (it's only rented for a few days and then I can hand it back and drive my own car again), what could be causing this problem, is it because it's a 3-cylinder engine, or is something broken? Both the 107, Aygo and the Vitz have 3-cylinder engines.
OK, just to maybe help you understand the problem better. Normal petrol cars would make a "mmmmmmmmm" noise when idling. These two rentals are making a noise that sounds like "phut phut phut phut".
