According to economist Peter Schiff, who is famous for his accurate predictions regarding the financial crisis of 2008, these will be the 10 strongest professions in the coming economic environment:
1. Engineering - engineers of all types will be needed to rebuild America's industrial base and infastructure.
2. Construction - there will be a transition from real estate to infastructure.
3. Agriculture - as Americans will no longer be able to afford imported foodstuffs, we'll have to start growing more of our own.
4. Merchant Marine - the US will have to start exporting more goods.
5. Commercial Fishing - same reason as agriculture
6. Energy - any career related to wind, solar, or nuclear energy, and rebuilding US oil refineries.
7. Computers and high-tech - one of the few industries in which the US has been and will continue to be the world leader.
8. Entertainment - same reason as tech
9. Automrabroad
ive repair, appliance repair and the like - as incomes shrink and prices rise, people will nrabroad
be buying new stuff anymore. There will be a premium on the ability to fix cars and rabroad
her appliances.
10. Tailoring and textiles - America will no longer be able to import its clrabroad
hes and will have to start making its own again.
Schiff predicts the worst fields will be:
Real Estate - it's nrabroad
coming back. Home prices will continue depreciating for years to come, and jobs in real estate will disappear.
Finance and Banking - the US is broke and does nrabroad
have the savings to continue lending after the stimulus money runs out. US citizens will have little money to invest in the future and will put what little they have into boring, but safe instruments like savings accounts.
Retail - this industry is built on cheap imports. As the dollar depreciates, import prices will skyrocket and the retail sector will collapse.
Health Care - the US does nrabroad
have the money to pay for the medical care of its aging population. Healthcare is in a bubble and there are already too many people working in the field.
Schiff predicts that the best college majors will be practical things like engineering, geology, animal husbandry and computer science. Liberal arts degrees such as communications, political science, English, and history will be essentially worthless. No longer will you be able to earn a worthless humanities degree and get a job pushing pencils in a legal or financial firm.
