So, I have 2 Robo hamsters. I got them a few months ago. When I got them they were the same size and now one is about twice as big as the other. This morning I woke up and the smaller hamster has a bald spot along with some blood on his backside. The wound is roughly 1/3 the size of the total hamster (or about the size of a quarter).
1. My hamsters do play fight, but none show excessive dominance over the other. Meaning, the smaller attacks the larger the same way the larger attacks the smaller. No one seems to ever get hurt.
2. The smaller hamster is still eating regularly and drinking regularly.
3. There is no sign of diarrhea.
4. He still runs on his wheel and otherwise appears healthy.
What could be wrong? I am afraid to take him to the vet (since a visit is roughly $75) and have it just be that they are fighting and need to be separated. I already have them separated anyhow regardless since I don't want the larger hamster to catch whatever the smaller hamster has.
I would like to take him to the vet, but my fiance says that it isn't worth the $75 for a $12 hamster.
