Personal recommendations for electronics brands please?

I tend to go for samsung, but they are not so good as to deserve loyalty. So there are adverts and promotions all over. The fact something is advertised tells you the company is not so terrible it goes out of business. Not high praise. I am interested in recommendations from personal experience of products? I would stick with samsung but a video recorder failed a month after the warrantee expired, and customer service gave us the run around. They would have served us better if they said, "So it's dead, get over it".
To give an example. Motorola is not a top brand in mobile phones. But for all I know, their phones may be excellent?
Or is it that these days, brands mean little?

I tend to think it all depends on the item.

For example, LG. Pretty much a top brand these days. I have an LG TV and it is superb. I also have an LG washing machine. That is, quite frankly, the best machine I have ever used. But, I don't rate their DVRs very well. They do the job, but I've had breakdowns on this.

The only brand I would trust with any product is Panasonic. I have never had any bother with anything I've had that was made by them. The only thing they made I didn't like was their hifis, many years ago. They were good machines, just that they didn't look that nice!

The only brand I wouldn't trust is Sony. I don't particularly like anything they do, had gripes with anything of theirs I've owned.
