Persistent Dry Cough

Well,
I heard many stories and my persistent cough could be related to any of them. I am Not a smoker, never smoked.

It seems to me sometimes it is related to allergies, last time I went to the doctor, I told him a have a history of mostly dry persistent cough and tried the allergy medicine and did not work, did the allergy tests and the results were that I am allergic to things that many people are allergic to but I thought may be I am just more sensitive.

Although I don't really feel much of the Acid reflex the doctor gave me Nexium and in a couple of weeks seems that the cough went away, however this was also the end of the allergy season before the fall bloomed again and cough came back.

It is not related to a cold, even-though sometimes my cold triggers the cough that last after the cough has come and gone

So here I am again very really perplexed as doctors I have seen seem not to be interested in doing a little more research to find what is causing my cough. i am just afraid that this cough could potentially damage something since I have been having these coughs on and off for few years now.

Any help , advice you can provide is appreciated

Thank you

Are you taking any kinds of medications? Some medications have a cough as a side effect. For example the blood pressure medication Lisinapril. A lot of patients claim that since they started taking the medication, they are always clearing their throat and coughing.

You do mentioned that your cough did go away when the allergy season went away and now that the fall season has begun, you have developed your cough again. I would say that allergies are playing a role. I would also maybe make an appointment to see a ENT-you may also have a sinus problem and your cough could be due to Post Nasal Drip.

Just some thoughts for you to ponder

The most common causes of chronic dry coughs: PND, allergies, asthma, acid reflux

You can have reflux with cough as the only symptom. I've suffered with it for years. If Nexium helps, great. If not, there are others to try. There are also diet and lifestyle modifications that may help.

Asthma can also be reflucted with cough as the only symptom. You don't need to be "wheezing" to know it is asthma.
