perl.........(the programing language)?

is it worth while learning and what are some of its up and down sides, also would you say it is "easy" enough to learn as a first computer language
 
I would learn a C language as a first language. Perhaps C++ or C# (C Sharp)

Perl borrows from C, so if you learn C, Perl will be easy to adopt.
