Plot: A teenager discovers he's the descendant of a Greek god and sets out on an adventure to settle an on-going battle between the goRAB. Based on the book by Rick Riordan

This new film from Chris Columbus looks great. I have never heard of the author though or the series of books but it is being touted as the new Harry Potter and the similarities can be seen especially with Chris
columbus on board.

Really looking forward to this, been so excited since i seen the trailer at the Avatar movie. Looks a bit like Harry Potter but the whole olympians aspect really interests me.

I'm interested in Greek mythology so I'm planning on seeing this. :)

Good to see the Greek goRAB making a big screen comeback this year, what with this and the Clash of the Titans remake.

You'd have to be pretty cynical to think that...which is probably why I thought the same thing!

The bit in the trailer that had me suss this film out is when the boy is given a pen and told to click it. He clicks the button and it turns into a sword. I could already here the witty "pen is mightier than the sword" joke that is bound to follow

Personally, I thought it looks pretty bad overall. Shame, as the basic idea (modern day kid finRAB out he's related to the Titans) has good potential. Butr as Gordie said, I just smell "bad Harry Potter rip-off" with this one.

I think its from the same driector who made the first few Harry Potter films so i can see the similarities. But i agree they really could have changed the font and logo to make it look even just a little bit original.

I am still really looking forward to it though :)

Ask your local coucil .. if they set a certifcate it over-rules the BBFC one (and probably what has happened at your local Vue)

That's probably the fault of the advertisers more than anything.

I'm not familiar with Percy Jackson and my first thought was "Harry Potter rip-off" when I saw a promo for it on TV, but then I remembered Bridge to Terabithia and how it was promoted as a Narnia type adventure when that couldn't have been further from the truth. So as hard as it might be I try not to acknowledge advertising because they always try to appeal to the mainstream and make even great films look awful as a result.

Well it looks like a bunch of horseshit which will probably peter out a la Pullman series.

Not sure how much undiluted un-Hollywoodified Greek mythology will actually translate to the screen. I don't mind being proved wrong though

I saw it this afternoon and really enjoyed it. There will be comparrisons with Harry Potter obviously, but I found I enjoyed it a lot more than I did the Potter films especially the last few.
This film doesn't have the depth of those films but I think that is one of the good things about it.
All three leaRAB were good in their own way. Pierce Bronson was a weird choice but what the hell.
As you would expect there are planty of plot holes, but they don't make the film totally cave in on itself making it completely ridiculous.

I think there will be a sequel which is no bad thing. I think these films could work as stand alone films in a franchise unlike the Potter films that you really do need to see the previous ones to understand what is going on.

Then i'm cynical!

Odd time of year to launch a potential franchise outside the spring/summer and winter perioRAB of big box office-is this telling?

No matter what, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt. 1 will be the biggest movie of the year - fact! I really hope Tron Legacy is a huge hit too, it looks amazing and IMO they deserve the success for putting so much effort into getting a Tron sequel made after all these years.

The one I'm waiting for is The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Without reading that book and The Silver Chair as a kid I probably would never have got into fantasy as much as I have. I would never have read Lord of the Rings if it were for those Narnia books.

Saw this on Friday, i liked it though i have to say...i'm surprised its a PG, a number of times i nearly jumped out my seat...maybe its just me?

Harmless and fun, enjoyable. Thought the character of goddess Athena would have been better with a biger name but thats just personal opinion.
