I read that confusion is the most common side effect of Pepcid. I've been taking it (20 mg every six hours) and it mostly works (despite still having to eat Tums and simethecone pills) ... however, it is leaving me with the undesirable side effect of confusion and absence seizures. In fact, my employer is putting me on paid FMLA leave until a neurologist clears me. I even had an absence seizure today at work (I put a cassette tape in the freezer) where I don't remeraber 30 minutes. My boss has noticed behavior for the past week (the same amount of time I have been on Pepcid) that is so not like me. I'm a medical transcriptionist with years of experience, and I think Pepcid is causing these confusion problems to the point where I can't perform at my job. It is not depression or anxiety because I know what that feels like (I am on Elavil to control that); it's something else. I am thinking of going back on my Nexium because I never had these mental side effects with that. Would rather have arthritis every day from Nexium than lose my mind. To me, that is the lesser of the two evils. I'm waiting on the phone call from my GI doc's nurse to see if I have to go back on Nexium (and she did say at the beginning of the Pepcid therapy that there's a possibility I may have to end up going back on Nexium).
