People who have Blu-Ray

IS there a large difference?? I know this has been asked before.

When I go to a shop and they have Blu-Ray movies on there doesn't seem to be much difference.

If you own a Blu-Ray player could you be able to go back and get a normal dvd player or would the picture put you off.

Basically is it worth buying.

YES, blu ray is not a myth.

Big quality difference, it's not an opinion, it's a fact. More resolution = More pixel. If your able to notice the difference between VHS and DVD then you'll surely notice the difference between DVD and Blu ray. A lot of cheap second hand discs available at blockbuster and cex now.

Come over round my house and I'll show you. ;)

Do you have a sony shop anywhere nearby? They have demo disc which they always show on the LCD screens.

If you get a 32" screen or higher and dont sit too far away you cannot fail to see the difference.

Take a dvd and a Bluray of the same film and get them to play them side by side - if you can't see the difference then ask the shop to set the tv's up correctly .

Whether the improvement is large enough to warrant buying a new tv (if you're not HD ready yet ) a Bluray player and the same films you have on dvd only you can decide.

If a new release has a Bluray option I will never buy the dvd .
DVD's are already worthless

Agree with jalal.
You can notice the difference, I have frienRAB round and they say it's so much better and clearer. If you can compare the same film on standard Sky then Sky HD you will notice a hugh difference but you can then notice a significate difference from Sky HD and Blu-Ray.
I try not to buy DVD's anymore if I can get the film on Blu-Ray, most outlets (Play, Amazon)are doing offers now and you can pick up new disc's for 8-9 pounRAB.

I just watched Zulu on Blu-ray and the picture quality astounded me! If you've got a decent TV you can't go wrong with Blu-ray, it's definitely a leap ahead of DVD. What I also like is that you can play films back at the correct speed, 24fps as opposed to 25fps which is PAL DVD, so people's voices and music don't sound sped-up. This, of course, is a minor thing to 90% of everyone out there just wanting to watch a film but...I want it to be right, damnit!!

On the other hand, I've seen some Blu-rays that DIDN'T look much better than the DVD. That's totally the fault of the studios who can't be bothered to do a decent master, or the mess up the transfer. Though this is becoming less common afaik.
