People keep talking about this thing called a cd they have music on, what is it exactly?

I only have records I just bought the latest Beatles LP Rubber Soul, I had to sneak it into my room and hide it under my bed though because my folks will be awful mad if they find out as they think the Beatles are inappropriate for me
