Pen Pal in Jail.....?

So I think it would be pretty fun to have a pen pal just to get to know someone who you would never otherwise know. I was browsing through websites where you can find pen pals and came across "prison pen pals" at first I just skipped over it but then it got me thinking...someone in prison would probably be much happier to have a pen pal---but it might be stressful to make a friend who is not in the free world, dangerous if they think they are in love with me or something and find me when they get out...anyone have an opinion on this or some advice?

I don't know your age, so I would get a second opinion from parents, teachers, and other trusted role models. I know that it sounds like a humanitarian thing to do to offer social contact to help those who are trapped in a closed society like prison. I would be careful on knowing the things you need to avoid further contact from them if they do get out or a remote escape possibility. Computer geeks are everywhere even in prison, and they learn how to track you somehow if you let too much information for them to use the breadcrumbs like Hansel and Gretel. I am just trying to get you wise in thought so you are amply armed, prepared and ready to under take this venture if it advised for you to do so...... Good luck or adieu.....

They are human beings but they are in prison, no crime no time, so they have done something to be in there. I personally wouldn't want to do this or have my children do this. There are many more people out there that i am sure would love to have you as a pen friend, mines was from Malaysia and we kept in touch for years by letter (before the computer). We sent photos and told each other about our countries and we learned a lot about different things, a prisoner has a very limited access to life except his past. do you really want to go there.

There is no harm in it as long as YOU set the ground rules. Tell them right out what you expect and don't expect. If those lines are crossed it ends. Also if there is a way you can not use your house address I'd suggest that.

lets see, how could you control this situation? Is this snail mail? Pen pal would have your mailing (home?) address; would you have to get a PO Box? Can you pick what kind of inmate your could write to? Maybe someone who committed a white collar crime? dunno.

Good luck!
