Hey Billy boy
Thanks for the prayers and remeraber you are in my prayers always.

I am not sure what is causing my pain but I suspect it is due to the first surgery were they went in and put in that cage and the nerves are irritated. It is such a sharp pain I holler out and just take deep breaths. I think when I am sleeping I stay in one position and then I am just too stiff when I get up to move but I know I must.

I will probably call the doctor's office again tomorrow because nothing seems to help this pain. I have started taking Tylenol PM also and sometimes it does help me sleep.

Gentle hugs and prayers to you and everyone else with the back problems.

Linda

linda , seems your a night owl like me !!!! Linda i am so very sorry that you are in such pain , are you doubeling up on pain meRAB ? My back has been hurting as of late , i will take my pain meRAB then lie on bed with my heating pad on - NOTHING seems to work though.. I hope your doctor will be in tomorrow since it's presidents day & all , i pray he is thare for your sake.. You do have people there to help you right ? Tylenol pm works for me , but it takes a while to kick in and allow me to fall asleep - - actually just took some.

linda try to get out of pain , i no getting comfy is hard - - but try too and relax.. keep me posted on how your feeling okay !!! good night billy

hello every body it;s early for me at least - it's 11:30pm , my surgery is in 3 days and i still have a million questions running threw me head o,k i am still very nervous , i don't no why though / is this normal ? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH !!

I was woundering - when they remove bone from my pelvic area , how bad will this hurt ? i heard the pain you feel after surgery at the pelvic region is unbearable , can any one testify on this??? my doctor told me yesterday that he was indeed removing bone from my pelvic area for my fusion , i do agree this is the best method. at first i did not no if he was going to use the "bone bank" or my own pelvic bone , he is DEF. using my own bone..

for some reason i am VERY restless tonight & have a lot on my mind:mad:.. i'm sure it is the pre-op jitters , don't mean to sound like a little worry wort !! i'm working on my breathing - taking deep breaths and doing my best to chill and relax !!

good night evry body  god bless  and sweet dreams

LINDA - hey thanks for your reply , and i'm sorry to hear that your in pain.. do you no whats causing the pain in your right leg ?? I am sure some one will answer my question about the pelvic bone , i thought they were going to use the bone bank for me as well..

linda when it comes to pain meRAB , i'm the same way.. they keep me wide awake most of the time , thats common in a lot of people.. some times i will take a couple tylenol p.m just so i can sleep !!

thank you again for being there , i hope your pain gets under control for you - i'll pray it does god bless billy

Hi Billy Boy!
I had the bone taken from my hip for my first fusion. I really didn't notice any particular extra pain from it, but that was 30 years ago. Back then, they didn't let you get up for three months after surgery, not even for the bathroom. Complete bedrest. It might have hurt more if I was up and around. I have heard people say it was more painful than the back pain, but there have been some people, too, who have said it was not bad. I hope it won't be bad for you. Keep your pain meRAB in your system all the time. That will help!

I had "donor" bone this time around. That's a nice word for cadaver bone. :D

Two days to go! Keep busy!

Blessings,
Emily

EMILY -- good afternoon to you , hope your weekend was eventfull !! THREE(3) months they kept you in bed , who was running the show FRED FLINSTONE ??? LOL... I'm only kidding around , i did hear when they remove bone from your pelvic area "autograft" - - it hurts pretty bad !! Threw all of this , I experienced some pretty awfull pain so that being said BRING IT ON !!!!! I am ready for what ever comes down my way , it might hurt but no pain no gain RIGHT ??

I heard when they take your own bone for the graft , it actually fuses quicker.. My doctor is also placing a bone stimulator in my back , he said 3/4 of an inch below my incision He also said some people don not like the feeling of the stimulator , and may have to take it out 9 to 10 months after surgery.. we will see !!!!!!

THANKS FOR POSTING BACK EMILY , GOD BLESS YA !!!! BILLY Boy

DEB __ HELLO good afternoon , thank you very much for keeping me in your prayers thats sweet of you !! i am doing my best to chill out and relax , it's hard though - - knowing that I have a major surgery coming up in just a few days , my nerves are all over the map LOL...If i dont speak with you before my surgery , i will post a thread as soon as possible after my surgery....

thank you so much - ALL YOU GUYS ARE AWSOME !!!!! billy boy

Ok, This is normal to have the jitters prior to surgery. I had the bone taken from my Pelvic Area and I wont lie it did smart a little but. the worst part was when they wanted me to get up to go the bathroom. Mind you that wasnt the bad part. The bad part was, they took the bone from the right hip and they want me to get out of bed on the right side whch meant swinging my leg out of the bed very slowly with help from the orderly. Now mind you I had no drugs yet and this was my first movement afterthe sugery. I let out a massive yell and then told them to please let me use the bed pan and they said no you need to move the leg and get it circulating. I was like get em medicated and I will think about it and get me more help because I cannot do this alone with one person. Now also mind you I also had the ACDF just done so I couldnt move my neck either so I was really scared with all of this going on. but after a day it goes away. it is the initial movement after suregery and not knowing what to expect. just dont be scared. everything will be fine. just also remeraber everyone pain tolorance level is different.

I want tell a lie, this is often the most painful part of the surgery and takes a lonnnnnnng time to heal but you will come thru it just fine. I can tell you are a very strong individual and remeraber that you always have us to come and chat with anytime. Good luck and I will be praying for you and your surgeon.

Billy, I think that it is great that you are asking questions and mentally preparing yourself for surgery. I wish that I had answers, but again, I don't. I know that whenever it is time for me to be on the operating table, then I will be sure to ask plenty of questions, beforehand. I pray that you will be able to relax and prepare your body for your upcoming surgery.

1978 - - thank you for your support , that is very nice and thoughtfull of you.. i'm doing my best to keep relaxed , but before i no it my alarm will go off and it will time to roll to the hosp.. i do try to ask as many questions as possible it helps me mentally prepare for my surgery..
thanks again billy

Billy,
Best wishes for your upcoming surgery. My daughter did not have bone taken from her hip when she had her fusion so I can't tell you how she felt. But the nerves I can. As the mom of the 15 year old having surgery, I was a wreck. I tried to keep really busy at school up until the day of her surgery. That seemed to help me. I know my daughter was really nervous, but she really had to concentrate and study for the final exams she had the day prior to her surgery. I think that helped her a lot also. It kept her mind occupied.

Try to keep yourself busy and good luck in surgery. cas

HEY pepper yes i did hear that removal of pelvic bone is very painfull !! I am assuming that you had this done when you had your surgery ? If so how long is the recovery time on th epelvic area , & what should i expect ?

pepa i am a strong man and pain does not discourage me , i will get threw all of this !! I do like to no what i'm facing at all times though , thats why i ask alot of questions.. I appreciate your thoughts and prayers , the same is for you or should i say ditto ..
thank you very much , i am almost there - wenRABday is coming soon

billy

Hey Billy just keep asking your questions because I know it helps to find out as much as you can before the surgery. I won't be able to help you with using your own bone because my neurosurgeon uses donor bone.

I am having a lot of problems with sharp pain in my right leg and lower back and when I get in bed I can't hardly move. They told me to double up on my medication at bedtime but sometimes it works the opposite on me and instead of helping me sleep it makes me more hyper. Does that make sense?

Remeraber that I am thinking about you and praying that you will have peace and the nerves will get better but I DO understand what you are going through. I am sure several will be able to answer about using your own bone for the fusion.

Linda

Hi Billy,
Just want you to know that my thoughts and prayers will be with you as you head into surgery. Please post and let us know how you are as soon as you can. Hope you can chill out these next few days. It will be over before you know it!

Heya Billy:

Thought I'd chime in and wish you well. I wanted to mention that I had bone taken from my ileac crest (top of pelvis) for my L5-S1 fusion, and I thought of it as a gift I gave myself. Ha! I was so worried about it being painful and hurting for the rest of my life, but it doesn't. Of course it hurt some after the surgery for a few months, but no more than the rest of me did, and in the grand scheme of things for me, it was no big whoop. I hope the same is true for you.

Good luck to you this week!
