A couple months ago I tried these new silicone ear plugs for sleeping at night and I had what seemed like an allergic reaction to them after two days. I woke up one morning and took them out and my skin where the ear plugs were touching had a burning feeling and they felt raw. Then after a couple days the skin started peeling off. They also started itching instead of burning. Now it's been two months and the skin is still peeling and itching. It only itches mildly but the peeling is this white skin that comes off. It helps to put vaseline petroleum jelly on it the peeling is less but it never goes away. Once I stop using the petroleum jelly the peeling gets bad again. What can I do about this.
Does this sound like contact dermatitis? I'm not sure why it's lasting so long. Could it have turned into an infection? Or does contact dermatitis sometimes last this long and I'll have to go see a doctor to try to get rid of it.
